From Skate Shop Stickers to a Vinyl Graphics Vision

Our story begins at the local skate shop’s sticker counter. We’d spend our lunch money on stickers - slapping them on skateboards, notebooks, and just about anything in sight. Some stickers were so cool we couldn’t even bring ourselves to use them - we just collected them.

As we got older and started driving and traveling, our adventures took us to Southern California beaches, Hawaii, and Las Vegas. Now we had cars to customize, and our sticker collection grew even bigger.

 

The Birth of Vinyl Mayhem

In 1996, while working at a restaurant and figuring out life’s direction, one of our founders met someone in the automotive graphics industry. That connection led us into the world of vinyl signs and visual advertising - and the idea for a vinyl sticker company was born.

We started producing die-cut vinyl stickers (also known as vinyl transfer stickers) and custom vinyl lettering - creating car window decals for local shops and retailers.

 

From Ska Bands to Surf, Skate, and Apparel Brands

One night after a Ska music show, we met members of an up-and-coming band called The Aquabats! That relationship led to stickers for more Southern California "Ska" bands including Reel Big Fish, and eventually for surf, skateboard, and apparel brands.

 

Madness, the Inspiration for Mayhem

We were growing quickly, but we still didn’t have a name. Since “vinyl” was our main medium - and the possibilities were endless, from stickers to vehicle graphics to window lettering - we wanted something bold. Inspired by one of our favorite bands, Madness, we made it official: Vinyl Mayhem.

 

Shifting Gears into Automotive Graphics

When our music clients signed record deals, their merchandise production moved to the labels - a big loss for us. But a new trend was exploding: import car customization. We owned a Honda Civic project car and began designing and installing import racing-style graphics for vehicles.

 

Making an Impact at the Battle of the Imports

In 1998, we attended the Battle of the Imports event with several cars wrapped in our custom vinyl graphics. That’s where we caught the attention of motorsport performance companies, opening doors to new opportunities.

 

Collaborations with Motorsport & Performance Leaders

From there, our work expanded into extreme sports, clothing brands, off-road industries, and boat manufacturers. We began producing products for major names in these industries.

 

From SEMA to the Fast and the Furious

Our designs earned us invitations to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.. an industry hotspot for automotive aftermarket and OEM manufacturers. We even consulted producers on the first Fast and the Furious movie before filming began.

 

Expanding into Signs, Wraps, Apparel, and More

As our product line grew, we added signs, wide-format printing, t-shirt/screen printing, vehicle wraps, wall graphics, and graphic supplies. Today, we offer thousands of designs, vinyl colors, and product options for customers worldwide.
